Effortless Succulents

DIY, Home, Yard

I’ll never forget the first time I saw succulents… It was my cousin’s wedding. She and her fiance were to be married in their new home, though there was hardly anything new about it. Their New Orleans home was in the process of being rennovated after enduring Hurricane Katrina.

Their front room had countless glass globes hanging from the ceiling, each holding a succulent from the groom’s native California. How awesome, right? I loved the way they looked – their thick, pillowy leaves were very distinct and with little soil around them it was apparent they required very little upkeep.

Refinished Antique Vanity

I love antiques. In a world poisoned by cheap, trendy, assemble-yourself “furniture,” antiques triumph. They’re built with quality materials that are made to last – obviously… they’re antiques for a reason! When I started to think about what kind of vanity I wanted for our bedroom, there was no question. It would need to be an antique. One of my friends has a beautiful refinished vanity in her room. It serves as a display for her perfumes and a place where she can sit down and apply her makeup. Exactly what I wanted.

DIY Vegetable Garden

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always enjoyed summers filled with fresh vegetables from the family garden. So, naturally, when we finally got a house of our own it wasn’t a question if we would build a vegetable garden or not – it was when? We moved in our house in April and by the time we were settled in, it was too late to plant a vegetable garden. We’ve been waiting a whole year for this project and we were so excited to start!

Painted Kitchen Cabinets

Let me just start out by saying I hate Oak cabinets. I’m sorry if I offend some of you with that statement, but they just aren’t my style. And, frankly, in the words of the latest and not-so-greatest Bachelor, Juan Pablo, “Eees Okay!”

I knew immediately when we stepped foot into the house, before we even bought it, that we would be refinishing the kitchen cabinets. Don’t get me wrong, they were BEAUTIFUL wooden cabinets, but their yellowish luster really dated the house even though it was only 8 years old!

DIY Easy Framed Mirrors

DIY, Home

This project started out rather humorously. I wanted to have 2 framed mirrors in our master bathroom rather than 1 huge builder-grade mirror. Kurt had the bright idea to save money by buying a glass cutter (for $7.00) and cutting the mirrors to size ourselves. We were already going to save money by framing our own mirrors but if we could break them to size for only $7.00 we would save even MORE!!! If it only went that smoothly…

Re-uphosltered Wingback Chair

Along with the amazing china hutch that we acquired from Kurt’s parent’s were not one but TWO beautiful wingback reclining chairs in perfect condition. I had been wanting a chair like this to replace our clunky recliner. With our house being small, large furniture really crowds our space. A re-uphlolstered wingback chair would fit nicely!

Painted China Hutch

For our first Christmas as newlyweds, my awesome husband found me an amazing rustic china hutch on Craigslist.com for $175. This hutch has been a beautiful addition to the dining room in our house however there has always been a corner I was less satisfied with.

I wanted a tall skinny hutch to fill the small space and help bring the room all together. Once I told Kurt that’s what I wanted for Christmas the hunt was on.
